Dr. Fernando A. Caceres-Urrutia comes from a long line of dentists, making dentistry both a profession and a family tradition. From an early age, he developed a deep respect for the trust patients place in their clinicians and for the precision required to restore health and function. With more than 25 years of clinical experience, he has built his career around advanced general dentistry, dental implants, bone grafting, oral-surgical procedures, root-canal treatment, and complex restorative care. His philosophy is to preserve what can be predictably preserved, rebuild what has been damaged, and thoughtfully replace what can no longer be maintained.
Dr. Caceres-Urrutia earned his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees from Francisco Marroquín University in Guatemala City. His graduate research examined the compressive strength of different dental-stone formulations, reflecting an early interest in dental materials, structural performance, and technical detail. He later completed the National Board Dental Examinations and the California dental licensure process. His professional experience has included caring for patients in both Guatemala and the United States.
Following dental school, Dr. Caceres-Urrutia pursued advanced clinical training through the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program at UAB University Hospital. His experience included oral surgery, dental implants, operating-room and emergency care, head-and-neck trauma, sedation, and the management of surgically complex patients. He continued his education through the University of Miami School of Medicine’s Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, with additional training in implant dentistry, bone grafting, and implant placement. He has also completed continuing education in periodontal surgery, guided tissue regeneration, prosthodontics, endodontics, occlusion, and the management of impacted teeth.
Dr. Caceres-Urrutia is especially drawn to complex cases that require surgical and restorative planning to work together. He believes an implant is not successful simply because it integrates with the bone; it must also support a natural-looking, functional, and maintainable final restoration. In the same way, a crown should do more than cover a tooth—it should protect the remaining structure, respect the surrounding tissues, and function properly within the patient’s bite. His treatment planning considers the teeth, gums, bone, materials, facial proportions, and long-term goals as parts of one connected system.
His approach to patient care is precise, direct, and deeply personal. He takes time to understand each patient’s concerns, previous experiences, expectations, and priorities before recommending treatment. Rather than pressuring patients toward one solution, he explains the diagnosis, available options, limitations, and long-term considerations clearly. His goal is to help patients make informed decisions and regain confidence in their dental care.
A lifelong student, Dr. Caceres-Urrutia remains committed to advancing his knowledge as techniques, materials, and evidence continue to evolve. His early research contributed to an enduring interest in how restorative and implant materials perform within the mouth. He considers strength, appearance, tooth preservation, bite forces, tissue health, repairability, and patient preferences when selecting materials. He believes experience is most valuable when it remains connected to curiosity, humility, and continued learning.
Dr. Caceres-Urrutia speaks Spanish, English, and Italian and continues to enjoy learning languages. He sees language as more than a practical skill—it is a way to understand different cultures, perspectives, and ways of expressing fear, trust, and hope. Outside the dental office, he plays guitar, keeps bees, and harvests his own honey. He is also an avid scuba diver, traveler, explorer, and enthusiastic lover of life.
These interests reflect many of the qualities he brings to dentistry: patience, dexterity, preparation, calm decision-making, and respect for living systems. Whether he is placing an implant, rebuilding bone, restoring a damaged tooth, or contributing to a comprehensive reconstruction, he approaches each case with care and attention to detail. His guiding principles are simple: listen carefully, diagnose thoroughly, plan comprehensively, preserve thoughtfully, and execute precisely. The most rewarding result, in his view, is helping a patient regain comfort, function, confidence, and trust.
