Our Approach & Philosophy

Integrative Dental Medicine, Centered on the Individual

Integrative dental medicine is a patient-centered model that brings the diagnostic precision and treatment capabilities of Western biomedicine together with evidence-informed complementary, biological, regenerative, preventive, mind-body, and supportive approaches.

This broader model considers the dental condition alongside the factors that may influence health, healing, and the experience of care—including physical and emotional well-being, sleep, lifestyle, environment, culture, personal values, material preferences, and spiritual beliefs.

Through collaboration across disciplines, these perspectives are brought together within one cohesive treatment plan designed to restore oral health, support healing, promote prevention, and care for the mind, body, and spirit.

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy is to advance dental medicine through integrative care—bringing the diagnostic precision and treatment capabilities of Western biomedicine together with evidence-informed complementary, biological, regenerative, and supportive approaches that promote healing, prevention, and long-term wellness.

Our care extends beyond treating dental disease. We partner with each patient to restore oral health, strengthen the conditions that support healing, and help prevent future problems.

This means recognizing the broader factors that may influence health and treatment outcomes, including physical and emotional well-being, lifestyle, environment, culture, personal values, material preferences, and spiritual beliefs.

Depending on each patient’s needs and preferences, conventional dental care may be complemented by carefully selected regenerative, preventive, mind-body, and supportive approaches, along with individualized material and treatment options.

By bringing these elements together when appropriate, we seek to optimize outcomes while caring for the mind, body, and spirit—not only the condition being treated.

How Integrative Care Comes Together

Care begins with a comprehensive understanding of the patient’s dental condition, health history, concerns, and goals.

Preventive, restorative, endodontic, periodontal, surgical, regenerative, cosmetic, and supportive approaches are then coordinated within one personalized plan.

When care involves more than one discipline, our general dentist, prosthodontist, periodontist, oral and maxillofacial surgeon, and other qualified practitioners collaborate so that each phase—from diagnosis and treatment through healing, restoration, and long-term maintenance—works together with purpose.

Integrative care is not defined by using the greatest number of therapies. It is defined by selecting the right care for the right patient and bringing those elements together coherently.

Conventional Dental Care Remains the Foundation

Integrative dentistry does not replace established dental diagnosis or necessary treatment.

Conventional care may include:

Complementary therapies are incorporated when they can meaningfully support the underlying treatment, patient comfort, healing, or long-term maintenance.

A dental abscess still requires treatment of the source. A fractured tooth still requires restorative or surgical evaluation. Gum disease still requires periodontal care. Complementary support does not replace definitive treatment.

How Complementary and Regenerative Therapies Fit Into Care

Depending on the diagnosis, procedure, and patient preferences, care may be complemented by:

Each therapy is selected with a defined purpose.

The purpose may be to support:

A therapy is not added merely because it is available or because it is labeled integrative.

Dental Ozone Therapy

Medical-grade dental ozone may be incorporated into selected restorative, periodontal, endodontic, implant, and surgical procedures as a localized adjunct.

At our practice, ozone therapy is used as a carefully selected complement to clinical care—supporting the treatment environment, comfort, and tissue recovery while the underlying dental condition is addressed through appropriate treatment.

Dental ozone does not replace:

Its role depends on the procedure, intended application, delivery protocol, and complete treatment plan.

PRP and PRF Regenerative Support

PRP and PRF are prepared from a small sample of the patient’s own blood.

These platelet-based preparations contain naturally occurring components involved in clot formation and early healing.

Depending on the procedure, PRP or PRF may be incorporated into:

They may support the surgical healing environment but do not replace bone-grafting materials, membranes, infection control, stable wound closure, or sound surgical technique when those are required.

Your own biology, thoughtfully applied.

Material-Conscious Care

No single dental material is ideal for every patient, tooth, implant, or procedure.

Material-conscious care means selecting materials deliberately according to:

Material decisions may involve:

When more than one appropriate option exists, we explain the differences clearly so the decision can be made together.

Zirconia Ceramic and Titanium Dental Implants

Our practice offers both zirconia ceramic and titanium dental implants.

Zirconia ceramic implants provide a metal-free, tooth-colored option for selected patients and are a central part of our implant practice. We use one-piece zirconia ceramic systems, including CeraRoot, for single-tooth, multi-tooth, full-arch, and full-mouth treatment.

Titanium implants offer an extensive clinical history and broad surgical and restorative flexibility. They may be particularly appropriate when the anatomy, implant dimensions, angulation, full-arch design, or restorative plan benefits from a titanium system.

The appropriate material is selected according to the complete surgical and restorative case—not through ideology alone.

Care for Mind, Body, and Spirit

Health is shaped not only by biological conditions, but also by pain, stress, emotional well-being, sleep, lifestyle, culture, relationships, and personal beliefs.

At San Diego Integrative & Implant Dentistry, these dimensions inform how we plan treatment, support comfort, and care for each patient throughout the healing process.

We believe care is most complete when the mind, body, and spirit are acknowledged together.

We honor each patient’s beliefs and traditions with respect, creating space for dignity, trust, reflection, and the personal meaning of healing.

Our goal is to support physical health while honoring the emotional, spiritual, and deeply personal experience of care.

The Relationship Is Part of the Care

Your care begins with a genuine relationship.

We take time to understand not only what brings you to us, but who you are—your health history, concerns, experiences, priorities, values, and hopes for treatment.

We listen closely because meaningful care begins with feeling known, respected, and genuinely cared for.

Together, we develop a plan that combines clinical insight with your voice. From diagnosis and treatment through healing and long-term maintenance, you can expect compassionate attention, clear communication, collaboration among your clinicians, and a team personally invested in your well-being.

Our goal is to make care feel like a shared healing experience—personal, connected, and built on trust.

Integrative by Philosophy. Multidisciplinary by Design.

The integrative approach is how we understand and care for the patient.

The multidisciplinary team is how that approach is delivered.

Our team brings together:

This model allows each clinician to contribute a distinct area of expertise while working toward one shared outcome.

A complex treatment plan may involve:

Each stage is planned in relation to the next.

Prevention, Healing, and Long-Term Health

Our approach considers both what requires attention today and what can strengthen health over time.

We emphasize:

By connecting prevention, treatment, healing support, restoration, and maintenance, we aim to create a stronger foundation for lasting health, function, and quality of life.

Integrative Care in Implant and Surgical Dentistry

An implant or surgical plan may bring together:

The surgery, healing environment, implant material, final restoration, and maintenance plan are considered together from the beginning.

Integrative Care in Periodontics

Healthy gums and bone are essential to natural teeth, dental implants, and restorative work.

Periodontal care may include:

Treatment is guided by the diagnosis, tissue quality, bone support, risk factors, anatomy, healing, and restorative goals.

Integrative Care in Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry

Restorative and cosmetic care often overlap.

A restoration may need to improve strength and function while also integrating naturally into the smile.

Treatment planning may consider:

Care may include:

The goal is not only to change how the teeth look. It is to create a result that functions within the patient’s health, bite, anatomy, and life.

Integrative Care for Dental Anxiety

Dental anxiety affects the body and the experience of care.

A personalized comfort plan may include:

Comfort is not an afterthought. It is part of how care is delivered.

Integrative Care for TMJ, Orofacial Pain, and Sleep

Jaw and facial pain may involve the teeth, muscles, joints, nerves, habits, sleep, stress, or several factors together.

Depending on the diagnosis, care may involve:

The purpose is to match each concern with the appropriate expertise rather than applying one treatment to every source of pain.

What You Can Expect

You can expect:

You do not need to arrive knowing which treatment or therapy you need.

Our role is to help you understand the clinical findings, compare the appropriate options, and build a plan that is both medically sound and personally meaningful.

Begin With a Conversation

Integrative care begins with understanding your health, concerns, experiences, and goals.

A comprehensive consultation gives us the time to listen, evaluate your needs, and begin shaping a coordinated plan that is clinically grounded, personally meaningful, and aligned with your long-term well-being.
